Former NBA coach Avery Johnson in discussions with Alabama officials
April 5, 2015 10:41 am ETAlabama athletic director Bill Battle has spent much of the past 24 hours meeting with former NBA coach Avery Johnson, and a source told CBSSports.com Sunday that Johnson is leaning toward accepting an offer to lead the Crimson Tide ... if he receives one.
Johnson is, at this moment, considered the frontrunner.
Alabama initially targeted Wichita State's Gregg Marshall to replace Anthony Grant.
Johnson, 50, is currently an analyst for ESPN. He played in the NBA for 16 seasons, then coached the Mavericks and Nets. He was the 2006 NBA Coach of the Year.
