Yeah I think the newspapers are overreacting.To lose to Serbia, a europe basketball powerhouse by 20 points without Yao should be celebrated as an accomplishment. To expect China to beat europe basketball teams without Yao is wishful thinking, with Yao in the team, the opposing team will have to double, even triple team him, thus creating open looks for outside shooters, without Yao China is a much less dangerous team. To expect China to leapfrog other European countries in just a few years is wishful and irresponsible thinking. The Chinese team has improved as a whole by a lot under the current coach. People should think before they criticize.
