But the former San Miguel Beer standout said his team’s main target is to make it to the top three, which will be enough to qualify the Filipinos for the 2013 FIBA Under-19 World Championship.

“That’s the good thing about the youth squad. Mas malaki yung chances natin to qualify in the world tournament because unlike the men’s team where only the champion in the region qualifies, the youth championship offers three spots for the World Championship,” said Racela.

Racela said his current team’s tallest players, RR De Leon and Marc Olayon, stand 6-foot-5. He’s hoping that college teams will lend some of their players to bolster the youth squad.

“Ang ginagawa ko nga ngayon, I’ve been communicating with the schools and see kung puwede nila ipahiram even yung mga rookies nila na alam kong hindi masyadong gagamitin sa UAAP or NCAA. At least, makakatulong rin sila sa amin sa youth team,” said Racela.

上一届2010年U18亚青赛，菲律宾青年队由现在的UAAP（应该是菲律宾高中联赛）明星球员Kiefer Ravena 和 Kevin Ferrer领衔取得了第五名。
接下来我想说一下：菲律宾的全国高中联赛MS和亚青赛的比赛时间冲突，所以导致很多校队为了球队的联赛成绩不肯让他们的核心球员代表菲律宾打亚青赛。菲律宾篮协只能征召，但是学校也可以拒绝，所以很多菲律宾筒子一直抱怨他们的青年队实力不完整。当然就算他们能凑齐联赛最强阵容，也不是麒麟组合的对手。
不过从这条消息来看，王哲林意外落选国家队这件事很可能成为菲律宾篮协要求校队放人的有力借口，对于菲律宾青年队还是一件好事啊！
