Rasual Butler agrees to non-guaranteed contract with the Pacers

Rasual Butler played 10 NBA seasons for five different teams, but couldn’t catch on with anyone last year.

Instead of taking his more than $20 million in gross career earnings and drifting into retirement, Butler worked on getting better in the D-League, and averaged 17.8 points in 31 games for Tulsa.

He continued that comeback effort with the Pacers at the Orlando Summer League, and Indiana liked what they saw enough to offer Butler a non-guaranteed contract for the upcoming season.

Free agent forward Rasual Butler has reached agreement on a non-guaranteed contract with the Indiana Pacers, agent Joel Bell told RealGM.

Despite the deal being non-guaranteed, Butler is expected to receive a shot to battle for his standing in training camp and preseason.

Butler played all 82 games in both 2009 with the Hornets and 2010 with the Clippers.

The Pacers have just 12 players with guaranteed contracts in place for next season, and considering their aspirations of playing deep into the postseason, you can expect them to want to add some capable depth to the roster.

Butler will have his opportunity, and it sounds like he’s well on his way to making the most of it.
