Reports: Clips, Paul Pierce agree to 3-year deal worth nearly $10 million

The Los Angeles Clippers have agreed to a deal with free agent forward Paul Pierce, according to the Orange County Register's Dan Woike. It is a three-year deal and there's an option on the final season, per NBA.com's David Aldridge. According to Yahoo Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski, it is for about $10 million, which means he signed for the taxpayer midlevel exception.
The Clippers have been reported suitors for Pierce for a while, as they needed a small forward and he has history with president and head coach Doc Rivers from their days with the Boston Celtics. He will fit right in and probably start, depending on what other moves Rivers makes.
The Washington Wizards wanted to re-sign Pierce and they offered him a two-year deal which would pay him $6.6 million next season and have a team option on the second year, per Yahoo Sports' Marc Spears. This means he is sacrificing money to go to Los Angeles, but it appears he just wants to play for Rivers, alongside Chris Paul, Blake Griffin and -- if he re-signs -- DeAndre Jordan. On Tuesday, the Wizards were reportedly "increasingly optimistic" about their chances of keeping Pierce, but these things can change quickly. It appears that they have.
Pierce will be 38 years old when the regular season begins. While he had a great showing with Washington in the playoffs, the Clippers were a logical choice. They give him a better chance of winning a title, and it looks like that's his priority at this point.
Paul Pierce is reportedly going to consider going to Los Angeles. (USATSI)
