台灣有很多戰神，朱木炎是戰神，邱毅號稱國民黨戰神，張友驊聽說是名嘴中的戰神，而中華職籃也曾有一支球隊叫戰神。但這些人全都比不上NBA戰神，Allen Iverson。

Iverson正式宣布退休了，似乎沒有激起太多漣?。或許大家心裡想的都和我差不多，其實自從2007年Iverson離開費城七六人的那一刻起，他就已經在我們的心中退休了。

在丹佛，在底特律，在孟斐斯，甚至最後重回費城25場，還有到土耳其賺奶粉錢的那一年，都只是連串而可笑的悲劇。

如同其他傳奇球星刻印在球迷心中的形象，無論任何時刻，Iverson的終極印記只有一個，只有七六人隊的3號黑白球衣，而且是2001年季後賽。他那以一己之力對抗湖人大軍的身影，竟和他一生孤獨頑抗全世界的境遇出奇神似。

而你儘管知道他會輸，還是不由自己的為他加油。這就是Iverson的魔力，是他之所以為戰神而且深深觸動每一個人的根本原因。你知道他跌倒十次會爬起來十次，你知道他即使精疲力竭，還是要用盡最後一絲力氣貓你一拳。在那一刻，他就是你，而你就是他。

從命中率來看，他的紀錄實在很糟，但有人在意嗎？他的統計數字再怎麼差，套個老外的說法，pound for pound、 inch for inch，身高只有183公分的Iverson仍可能是NBA史上最傑出的球員。

Iverson顛覆了我心中的成見，大概也顛覆了所有曾經帶過他的教練的成見，特別是很想把他一口氣勒死的學院派教頭Larry Brown。場外結交豬朋狗友，不愛練球又愛嗆教練，被某些球評認為是「眼中有籃框、心中無隊友」，Iverson完全不具備傳統NBA球星應該具有的習慣，但他彷彿是為籃球而生的天生戰士，在那94乘50英呎的籃球場中，他是被附身的神。然而也不要忘了，他的生涯平均得分26.7分，命中率只有42.5%是沒錯，但他每場還有3.7籃板、6.2助攻外帶2.2抄截。請告訴我，他是不是真的那麼自私？

運動迷往往會很固執的相信，心中那個「剎那即永恆」的imprint，會突破時光限制一直留藏在心中，Iverson那瘦小卻穿梭在長人陣中的身影，以及街頭籃球場上突然如雨後春筍冒出的白色籃球臂套、Reebok Question球鞋、黑底白字的費城3號球衣，會是無法抹滅、陪我們進棺材的記憶。

我也是如此，所以，其實很後悔去讀到Iverson將生涯所賺到的2億美元(球隊薪資加Reebok終生合約加其他廣告合約)花光弄到破產、連一個漢堡都買不起的新聞，那和多年前讀到偶像魔術強森是3P魔人一樣難堪。

但真的，別開玩笑了，說起AI，你不該想起artificial intelligence(人工智慧)的，那是對戰神的褻瀆。你只該想起Allen Iverson。

自2013年起，就沒有再更新過自己的英文籃球部落格，也未曾再替Asia-basket.com寫過任何一篇報導(自1998年起，我像神經病一樣為該站寫了14年無償的台灣籃球英文報導)。今天，卻突如其來收到FIBA Asia一名記者的email。

信中問道，我是否認為Kwang這名教練在十年前的努力，為台灣籃球今年重返四強奠定紮實的根基。如果可以，他想在報導中引用我的評論。

Kwang? 十年前? 李雲光?

我回答：如果是指李雲光，那麼很抱歉，我無法認同這個看法；因為李雲光執教任內，台灣籃球，至少以國際賽名次論，是跌到了谷底。真正說起來，我還認為南韓教頭鄭光錫執教台灣國家隊的成績，比較有看頭。

亞洲籃總記者回信：「我說的Kwang就是Chung Kwang-suk，鄭光錫啊！」不禁啞然失笑，幸好，籃球同業的判斷和觀察還不致於差得太多。

鄭光錫，生於1945年，前南韓職籃現代隊教練。他的生涯巔峰之作，是1997年亞錦賽率南韓在準決賽大爆冷門作掉中國，冠軍賽力克小濱元孝帶領的日本，拿下冠軍，同時和日本一起進軍1998年世錦賽。

1999年他應聘來台，在當時的中華職籃CBA帶領達欣虎，戰績並不是太妙。CBA倒店之後，他成為1999年亞錦賽錢一飛教練的顧問，協助台灣打進四強，寫下近代最佳成績。從此之後，台灣在亞洲成績江河日下，2003年甚至締造史上最差的第11名紀錄(教頭為李雲光)。

鄭光錫要到2007年才再度來台，應籃協之邀執掌國家隊兵符。幾個月的集訓時間，雖然短兵缺將，卻一舉將名次提昇到日本德島亞錦賽第六名。兩年後在天津，再將名次往上推進到第五名。之後，鄭光錫約滿離台，2011年台灣男籃教練由周俊三接任，名次退至第八。

2012年7月26日，鄭光錫因胰臟癌病逝於南韓，享年67歲。

因為時間有限，我簡單的在email中作了回覆。以我個人的觀察，鄭光錫執教的台灣國家隊，打出了「堅強防守、快速反擊」的鄭氏風格，防守強度堪稱史上之最，尤其是區域防守，從未見過我們的二三區域曾經守得那麼滴水不漏。

此外，鄭光錫自2000年亞青開始，就特別注意林志傑的潛力，稱其為未曾馴服的脫韁野馬。從2000年起至2007年間，林志傑一度浮沈，但終究打出頭，今年一舉入選亞錦賽最佳五人。回首往日，對鄭光錫的支持與提點，勢必格外有感受。

而當今台灣較受矚目的年輕教練，如今年的總教練許晉哲，以及2010年率亞青代表隊前進世錦賽的黃萬隆，亦曾先後在鄭光錫底下擔任助理教練，受其薰陶。

很遺憾的是，鄭光錫在台期間由於語文問題，和球員溝通都要透過翻譯，但翻譯素質良莠不齊，他的訓練多少打了折扣。否則，國家隊的實力或許還能向上突破。

收到這封信，突然覺得汗顏。居然是一個亞洲籃總的外國記者，提醒了我們，已經在天堂教籃球的鄭光錫，和今年重返四強的台灣有著什麼樣的關係，而我們自己對此竟恍然不知。

但我相信，此時此刻，鄭光錫老教練在天上會徐徐的點點頭，為他這群台灣孩子笑得很開心的。

Manager John Gibbons told reporters that Chien-Ming Wang will make tomorrow's start against the Astros. I was kind of hoping it would be Sean Nolin or Kyle Drabek or Marcus Stroman but Wang gets the call. The Jays have an open roster spot after Aaron Loup went on the paternity list today. He can be on it for up to three days, so Mrs. Loup is on the clock.

Wang, as you'll remember, made 5 starts for us earlier in the season. He had a 1-1 record with a 7.13 ERA, 35 hits, 8 walks and 11 strikeouts in 24 innings. His first 3 starts were pretty good, or pretty lucky. His last two starts he only lasted 1.2 innings in each and gave up 13 earned runs in the 3.1 innings.

Wang has been doing a good job for the Bisons, in his last 10 games he has a 4-3 record with a 3.18 ERA, 12 walks and 30 strikeouts in 51 innings.

I'm hoping the last Bison out of Buffalo remembers to turn out the lights.

Philadelphia may be the "City of Brotherly Love," but Golden State is now home for sweet-shooting guards Stephen and Seth Curry, according to reports. The Duke star went undrafted and has now inked a non-guaranteed deal with the Warriors.

Stephen Curry was known as a lights-out shooter since he was drafted out of Davidson in 2009, but became a superstar in the 2013 NBA playoffs as he led an upset of the sixth-seeded Denver Nuggets in the first round, and pushed the eventual Western Conference champion San Antonio Spurs to six games.

Last season was Curry's finest as a pro to date, putting up 21.6 points and 6.5 assists per game while drilling 45 percent of his 3-pointers on 7.2 attempts a night. Stephen's brother Seth has starred at Duke the past three years, and although he hasn't received the individual acclaim of his older sibling, Seth is quite the shooter in his own right.

Last season as the top scoring option for the Blue Devils, Seth scored 17.5 points a night, sinking 44 percent of his 3-pointers on a tick over six attempts. Unlike Stephen, however, Seth has yet to master the art of scoring and getting his teammates involved; his career high assists per game average is just 2.4, set during his junior season under coach Mike Krzyzewski.

When asked about possibly playing with his brother Stephen said, "It would be a throwback to high school. We played together one year-I was a senior; he was a sophomore. I guess you could call it a dream come true."

Describing their traits as players, Stephen gave his brother the edge on him defensively. "Some would say he plays better defense me. I'm getting better. He can lock up."

Chris Paul elected NBPA president

Announced late Wednesday, Chris Paul has been elected as the new president of the National Basketball Players Association, succeeding Derek Fisher.

Paul has served previously as a union vice president, but is now in charge of redirecting the players after a year and a half of controversy and problems.

Paul, a six-time All-Star, becomes the biggest star to serve as NBPA president since Patrick Ewing held the post in 2001.

On a conference call following the election, Paul stressed that the important message from the players is a desire to get the entire union involved, something the NBPA has struggled with in the past that has come back to bite them during lockouts in 1999 and 2011.

"Right now is a big time for us as players and as a union moving forward," Paul said. "I have a lot of experience having been around the union, but moving forward it's not about me as president or the first vice president, it's about the players as a whole, as a body. That's what we've focused on, how we can build the game."

Following the tumultuous events of the last year in which executive director Billy Hunter was removed amidst a scandal involving charges of nepotism and abuse of power, Paul described the situation the union was facing as a "rebuild."

Roger Mason Jr. was said to be the frontrunner for the position, but with Paul's star power and strong voice, he overtook Mason. Part of the likely reason why is that Mason is currently a free agent and with the union trying to gather itself after 18 months of issues, having stable leadership was key. Mason will serve as first vice president under Paul, however.

Joining the two among the officers as vice presidents are Lakers guard Steve Blake and Charlotte Bobcat Anthony Tolliver. Tolliver was an outspoken player advocate during the 2011 lockout.

LeBron James was considering a run for president as well, but ultimately decided against it because of time commitment issues.

"My first priority is to continue to get as much involvement as possible from our players.," Paul said. "That's what it's all about. That's what it's been about and that's what it's about going forward."

Paul's first order of business is hiring a new executive for the union after Hunter's firing. Paul said there was "no rush" when it came to hiring a new executive director.

"We want to make sure our house in is order and make sure everything is in the right place so the exec director can come in and hit the ground running."

Three years after the NBA decided it was done with Allen Iverson, the 11-time All-Star is expected to officially declare that the feeling is now mutual.

According to Tzvi Twersky of Slam, a source close to Iverson said a retirement announcement is imminent.

Iverson last played in 2010 for thePhiladelphia 76ers in what turned out to be a farewell tour. By that point, he wasn't the same player that had wowed fans around the world with his fearless drives and brash attitude.

But nobody will remember the Answer as he was in his final years. Instead, people will celebrate his incredible toughness and truly remarkable athleticism. At just 6'0" and generously listed at 165 pounds, Iverson was never afraid to throw his willow-thin body into traffic. He took more hard falls and suffered more brutal contact than any player of his era.

Yet he kept getting up.

Through his first 11 years in the league, Iverson led the NBA in minutes per game a whopping seven times. With a career average of 41.1 minutes per game, he ranks fourth on the all-time list.

And his minutes weren't ordinary minutes, either. A.I. had the ball all the time and was constantly the focal point of every opponent's defense. He couldn't jog down the court without getting bumped, elbowed or hounded by at least one defender.

Despite the constant defensive attention, Iverson managed to put up some truly remarkable point totals. He led the league in scoring four times and will finish with a career average of 26.7 points per game.

Rarely efficient, Iverson probably benefited from playing in an era just before advanced stats began to condemn high-volume, low-efficiency shooters like him. Regardless of his debatable overall value, the Answer was on the short list of the league's most inspiring, entertaining players to watch.

More important than all of that, though, is Iverson's iconic status as a representative of hip-hop culture in the NBA. The two areas are synonymous now, but there was a time when Iverson's tattoos, cornrows and throwback jerseys were the source of real concern among image-conscious NBA executives.

Never apologetic for the way he dressed or carried himself, Iverson was largely responsible for the infusion of a new attitude in the NBA.

You can also probably blame him for the league's dress code, which commissioner David Stern implemented in 2005.

Iverson's legacy, like his career itself, will be the subject of great debate. But now that it appears he'll be putting an official period at the end of his basketball sentence, the conversation about his place in history can begin.

After signing with the Knicks last summer, Ronnie Brewer had a short lived stint in New York. He had knee surgery before the season started and only ended up playing in 46 games before he was shipped off to Oklahoma City.

With the Thunder, he didn’t make much of an impact, only appearing in 15 total games throughout the remainder of the regular season and the playoffs.

When healthy however, Brewer has shown to be a valuable commodity, especially on the defensive end.

Earlier today, Brewer agreed to terms with the Houston Rockets, sources told ESPN.

“Sources told ESPN.com that the Rockets struck an agreement Monday on a two-year partially guaranteed deal with the defensive specialist, who played for the New York Knicks and Oklahoma City Thunder last season.”

It has been an interesting and thrilling offseason for the Rockets, as they finally signed Dwight Howard after a long courtship. And while Brewer certainly isn’t as exciting a signing as Howard, he’s a solid pickup. Also, with a partially guaranteed deal, it’s a very low risk for Houston to take.

At 6′ 7″, Brewer is able to play both shooting guard and small forward. And with Francisco Garcia and Omri Casspi the current options backing up the 2 and the 3, Brewer will certainly have a chance to get minutes backing up either James Harden or Chandler Parsons.

If Brewer can bounce back after a tough year last season and show he can still guard at an elite level, there is no reason to think he won’t see many minutes off the bench. And if he can’t, then the Rockets will have invested hardly anything to take a chance on him.

中華與韓國之戰，決定誰成為本屆瓊斯盃冠軍，地主中華全場打起來綁手綁腳，反觀韓國在金蓮珠個人拿下17分5籃板，終場韓國75:52大勝中華，金蓮珠為賽事MVP。

賽前中華需贏12分才能奪冠，但開賽命中率不佳，而南韓前ㄧ場轟下36分的姜娥晶提早陷入犯規麻煩，但美少女金蓮珠扛起進攻重任，三分神射讓中華防不勝防，光上半場就拿下10分，中華半場落後11分。

下半場中華進攻仍未見起色，防守依然無法阻止韓國的快速傳導，反觀韓國進攻流暢，射手群頻頻開火，下半場更將比分拉開到20分的差距，最終23分大勝。

賽後總教練洪玲瑤表示：「今天是很想贏的，但球隊狀況有人受傷，內線幾顆球放不進，那就是代表練不夠，離東亞盃、亞錦賽還有ㄧ段時間，希望透過訓練能夠讓球隊更進步。」

韓國除金蓮珠17分外，姜娥晶15分，郭珠英12分6籃板，中華得分最高為藍浩語的12分，王俐云10分。

日本與光華之戰，光華又在第四節關鍵時刻跌一跤，雖然曾一度逆轉比分，但日本穩扎穩打，連續兩記三分球幫助日本再將比分超前，並領先至終場，光華57:65敗給日本。

光華總教練柯孟儀賽後表示，五場球下來除了對美國內容較為不佳外，其它的四場比賽都有打出我們應有的水準和內容，球隊的感情也越來越好。

光華得分最高為劉嘉瑋，此役攻下全場最高的20分7籃板，本次5場比賽中有4次得分雙位數，日本長岡萌映子14分，町田瑠唯15分5籃板5助攻。

美國與泰國之戰，美國全場7人得分雙位數，加上籃板64:18取得大幅度領先，最終110:59大勝泰國。

美國伯茲(Angelique Burtts)23分13籃板，羅絲(Toccara Ross)16分10籃板，杜威(Christian Dewitt)12分14籃板，泰國則是聘潘(Penphan Yothanan)19分6籃板7助攻表現最佳。

本屆名次韓國5戰全勝第一，日本第二，中華第三，美國第四，光華第五，泰國墊底。

中華破百退泰國明日鬥韓國

中華今日遭遇一場未勝的泰國，中華在全場命中率遠優於對手的情況下，加上彭詩晴攻下全場最高的26分，終場破百的比分106:50擊敗泰國，依然保持爭冠的機會。

賽後中華總教練洪玲瑤表示，這場比賽主要用意在調整，讓球員有喘息的空間，好面對明天的比賽，此外提到今天比較不滿意的部分，洪玲瑤指出，讓泰國球員投進較多的外線，這是比較不滿意的部分。

中華首節就25:11領先14分，第二節更讓泰國得到9分，打完上半場早早取得50:20的領先，進入下半場中華進攻火力更加旺盛，反觀泰國失誤過多，全場ㄧ共發生40次失誤，加上中華全場有22次抄截成功，讓泰國慘敗。

中華得分最高為彭詩晴，黃英利有22分8籃板6助攻5抄截，表現相當全面，王俐云17分7籃板，泰國得分最高為朱塔嘛(Juthanas Jantakan)的22分。

光華與韓國之戰，雙方前三節結束戰成50:50平手，第四節開始韓國射手姜娥晶連下8分，雖然光華在劉希瞱、劉嘉瑋兩人聯手追分，曾一度將比分追到只差1分，但韓國朴惠珍、郭珠英外線連連得手，再度將比分拉開，最終韓國76:63獲勝。

韓國射手姜娥晶單場轟下36分，金蓮珠、郭珠英都有10分的進帳，光華得分最高為張綺芳的14分，劉嘉瑋12分、劉希瞱11分。

光華總教練柯孟儀表示：「我們賽前有提防她們的外線射手，但今天有成功守住金蓮珠，但她們其她的射手太穩定了，確確實實的上了ㄧ課。」

昨日擊敗中華的日本今日面對美國，日本全場共五人得分達雙位數，鈴木步美16分10籃板，山本千夏14分，長岡萌映子12分，美國首節就落後達11分，第三節美國更只拿下9分，最終67:89落敗。

美國得分最高為杜威(Christian Dewitt)，此役20分14籃板，哈特曼(Patechia Hartman)11分。

今日賽事結束，韓國4勝0敗暫居第一，中華、日本同樣3勝1敗並列第二，光華、美國同是1勝3敗並列第三，墊底則是0勝4敗的泰國。

中華如要奪冠，明天必須至少贏韓國12分，並希望光華能擊敗日本，中華就可順利登頂，明日賽事首戰兩點光華出戰日本，四點美國對決泰國，六點中華遭遇韓國。

為鼓勵台灣年輕運動員與喜愛運動青少年，林書豪首先與金華國中球隊(國中籃球聯賽101學年度冠軍隊伍)，分享平日練習技巧，強調運球速度變換十分重要，可藉由速度快慢變化擺脫對手，幫助他們在比賽中可靈活運用，並勉勵將赴美唸書並挑戰籃球築夢的U16亞青國手東方譯慷、陳振傑、王律翔、莊凱閎勇敢抓住實現夢想機會，展現自信，發揮最大的潛力。

接著神秘造訪台北熱門戶外球場新生高架橋下球場，下場體驗台灣戶外籃球風格，大秀過人切入和扣籃讓現場球友驚喜萬分。隨後前往Nike 13號特區與現場球迷、運動愛好者相見歡，擔任Nike 2013 球場之王冠軍隊伍場邊指導教練，更親自下場與Nike明星隊賴國維、周儀翔、劉錚等人進行切磋，傳出多次助攻協助隊友得分。賴國維表示:「林書豪的切入速度很快，身體碰撞強度和一般後衛比起來更強。」林書豪用實際行動傳遞出對籃球運動的熱情，並鼓勵台灣青少年勇敢實現築夢！
